Future of Industry Award
WHAT IS THE DOW FUTURE OF INDUSTRY AWARD?
The FIRST Robotics Competition is the ideal pathway between students interested in STEM and workforce development. The robots that your teams build and the lessons you learn are real world, 21st century skills that can transfer directly into the field. This award is meant to focus on that element of the competition. The Dow Future of Industry Award will recognize a team that best exhibits the connections between the FIRST Experience and Real World Opportunity.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Teams that compete in the Bayou Regional will be eligible for this award. This includes rookies, veterans, and teams that are from outside of the Louisiana-Mississippi area.
WHAT DO YOU WIN?
The winning team receives $1000.00 unrestricted funding from Dow for FIRST Robotics Team expenses.
HOW DO YOU WIN?
Teams must submit a digital presentation via video or PowerPoint (no longer than 5 minutes) showing the following:
1. What skills did your team learn that could be transferred directly into industry?
2. For what jobs could these skills be used and how?
3. Talk to industry professionals about the skills you’ve learned and tell us about specific companies that would hire someone with this skill set and what jobs are available to those trained in the areas that are covered in your FIRST Robotics Competition experience. This can include robot build and programming, public speaking, project management, etc. Be specific. The more detailed the better!
WHEN IS IT DUE?
Deadline for submission will be March 10th of the competition year.
WHO DECIDES WHO WINS?
A panel of industry professionals from Dow, FIRST Louisiana-Mississippi, and Dow’s choice of professional partners will decide the winner of the award.
WHEN DOES THE AWARD HAPPEN?
The winner will be announced at the Bayou Regional on Friday afternoon as part of closing ceremonies
